The Philadelphia Contributionship Garden

Visit this beautiful Magnolia kobus ‘borealis’ at the Philadelphia Contributionship garden.

We live and work in a special part of the country, with many significant historic buildings and gardens. One of our favorites is the headquarters of The Philadelphia Contributionship, located in the Society Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia.

Founded by volunteer firefighters and Benjamin Franklin in 1752, The Philadelphia Contributionship is the oldest property insurance company in the United States. The Contributionship moved into their current headquarters, a National Historic Landmark that houses offices and a small museum, in 1836.

You immediately feel the history when entering the property and the beautiful rear garden courtyard. The garden features a central fountain surrounded by brick paths and flagstone-edged planting beds. Several mature trees provide shade and beauty. Certified Arborist Ken LeRoy leads our company in designing and implementing a tree preservation program for the signature trees on the property.

History enthusiasts can schedule a tour of the museum and upper floors of the building by calling the Contributionship at 1-888-627-1752.
